Nice intro. Thanks
Nice intro. Thank you
I agree so much with the point about learning to use the new tools of social networking etc - they are just tools and if not put to sensible use they are useless - you cannot use a hammer to bang in a screw - choose the right tool for the job and use it properly.

Whilst the internet, Web 2:0 etc has huge value, ideally we need to combine it with meaningful purposeful face to face interaction as well, but that cannot always be done. I am very interested to see how this e conference works and whether we can all discover at the end of it that it is one meaningful way of using the technology when face to face meetings are impractical/ cost prohibitive.
Thanks Katherine, that's such a useful reminder, it's not just about using the tools but using them in the right way for the right purpose.

We have already had a face to face meeting for this project and I don't think we would have got this far without it. Making the personal connections was invaluable.

We are still testing the tools that we're using, they might work and they might not but we're giving them a go, evaluating them and then making it better.
Thanks a lot! Good starting!
Mirko, Great to get a sense of the links across civil society- could you give us a specific example of how German organisations can benefit from this process? Are there some concerns that can be addressed?
God points Mirko. Just using FaceBook etc. doesn't mean anything's got better I totally agree.

Indeed there is a real danger that this drive towards new tools masquerades inactivity as opposed to delivering any real change.
Thank you Mirko great start to the day - I am very much looking forward to the day and this first exchange
I suppose a really interesting point is whether the tools can help us do things more cheaply, like conferences etc. which could lead to more cash available for on the ground change. Any evidence of that would be very powerful...
Richard, that makes a lot of sense, as times are tough people will be looking to make the money go further so reduction in travel costs could be a real plus!
This could be major benefit for EC which has a huge travel budget and carbon footprint. Will need good evidence though to convince the sceptics...
I echo Richard's sentimtnt that sentiment very much. the test fir all htis process and social networks has to be how it will enhance our respective capacities to have tangible impacts on people and their connunities , enhancing their well being and cnsequently enabling their subsequent participation and in turn enhacning others' experiences of rhte better.... that is trh e acid test for all this I am keen to here other's views on this

Kind regards

Joe
