12:00 WORKSHOP - HOW DOES THE DEMOGRAPHIC OF YOUR WORKFORCE IMPACT ON HOW YOU RUN YOUR ORGANISATION?

Though one might argue that if the measures were set by the commissioner then that simply reflects the wrong measures being used...But that's another workshop Piret!
Anna:

Here in the UK, with unemployment rising, there's an increasing demand in volunteering where some areas of the sector finding it difficult to cope with.
I think Somanah's point is really important. I wonder if the recession flushed out a deeper problem that has been bubbling under for some time: that matching supply and demand for active citizens and volunteers is going to get more difficult. Engaged citizens want a la carte (or should that be take away...or drive thru?) engagement opportunites. But voluntary organisations - and possibly government, as it thinks about the Big Society - want those people to be much more committed, presumably for longer periods, potentially undertaking tasks that have been organised like a job description.

That's not to volunteers are a problem when thinking about the workforce - but it might suggest we are going to need better ways of matching supply and demand, including more of the remote (web-based) volunteering described by Jayne Cravens.
