VAC is a limited company by guarantee and a registered charity. VAC works with the sector to support voluntary and community activity to improve the quality of life. VAC is an independent charitable company run by an Executive Committee elected annually by the membership.
VAC has a strong track record of delivering work on time and within budget and has Investors In People, MATRIX and NACVA’s quality marks as well as a Green Quality Mark.
VAC provides support and services to and is in regular contact with more than 1,700 local organisations and with over 300 active member organisations. The services can be briefly summarised under these headings:
§ Direct services: VAC provide services such as a salary administration, community accountancy, letting of premises and range of equipment for hire, information and resources centre for small groups
§ Capacity building: VAC offers information, practical support, training and skills sharing opportunities on issues such as goverance management, employment & HR, fundraising, and ICT. VAC provides accredited training such as Contract & Commissioning, Project Management, Operational Management, Strategic Management,etc, and also non-accredited training in Fundraising, Leadership & Management, HR management, Consortia & Partnership Working, Roles & Responsiblities of Trustees, etc .
§ Representation & Policy Development: VAC works at a strategic level championing the work, role and contribution of the sector and support the voluntary and community groups to take part in delivering services, developing policies and working in partnership with others. This is done through Camden Compact, Camden Change Up, active involvement in the Local Strategic Partnership, development of the Community Assets with Housing Associations, Community Safety Executive, Local Health Board, Children & Young People’s Partnership, Professional Executive Committee, etc.
§ Networking, Sharing Good Practice & Influencing: VAC falicitates several networks and forums such as the Community Centres Network, Children & Families Network, Community Nursery Partnerships, Mental Health Forum, Health Inequalities Forum, Homelessness Forum, Health & Social Care Forum.
VAC works in partnership with a number of agencies both within the sector and across sectors. An example being the Active & Sustainable Communities Partnership which involves all infrastructure bodies, the Council, Primary Care Trust and three housing association in the development of a long term premises strategy for the Third Sector.
Voluntary Action Camden (VAC) is currently developing its coaching and mentoring services and would like to work with partners across Europe on this. VAC has also developed leadership & management courses specifically for the sector which includes Project Management. See attached documents.
VAC recently worked with Japanese partners in increasing participation of the civil society in the Kanagawa province.
